Healthy Active Living - Committed to Active Aging

Citiparks will host a South Side Market House centennial celebration on Saturday, August 29, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the historic landmark located at 12th and Bingham Streets. The indoor/outdoor block party will feature live bands, ethnic foods, health fair, kids’ corner and much more throughout the day. At 11 a.m., a stage ceremony will include welcoming remarks from a number of VIPs and the unveiling of the contents found in the building’s historical time capsule.

The South Side Market House was built in 1893 and completely rebuilt in 1915 following a fire. In the 1940s the market closed and the building reopened as a community recreation center. Currently the building houses the Citiparks Healthy Active Living center and a gymnasium. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this building is one of the last two remaining 19th-century market houses in the City of Pittsburgh.

Beginning on Monday, July 6, the Beechview Healthy Active Living center is closed for renovation.
