Paul G. Sullivan directed the Pittsburgh Parks Championships held at the Frick Park Clay Courts from 1930 until 2000. In 2002, at the age of 98, he put down his racquet for the last time—and the tournament was renamed after this local tennis enthusiast and promoter.

Now revitalized by the Frick Park Clay Court Tennis Club, this traditional tournament is USTA-sanctioned and open to adult players 16 years and older (City and non-City residents). In 2011, the tournament welcomed 162 players, including 64 players for the USTA-sanctioned Men's Open Singles. Matches take place all day Saturday and Sunday and in the evenings on weekdays.
