Boys and girls participating in Citiparks BIG League Sports baseball and softball leagues will take to the field at PNC Park on Wed., July 24, and Thurs., July 25, for the annual “Mayor’s Cup Championship Games.” Championship games for boys Little League (age 10 – 12) and girls softball (15 years and younger) will take place on Wednesday, while boys Pony, Colt and Super-Colt (ages 13 – 18) will take place on Thursday. First pitch each day will be at 4 p.m. (see game schedule below)
“BIG League Sports offers quality athletic and educational opportunities for our youth in Pittsburgh neighborhoods,” according to Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. “A true highlight each summer is when our boys and girls compete at PNC Park. Playing in the Pirates’ home park is sure to create memories that last a lifetime.”
This year, the “Mayor’s Cup Challenge” is encouraging all individuals attending to make donations as admission at the gate. All donations collected on July 24 and 25 will benefit the American Heart Association.
“Each year, thousands of people enjoy watching the city’s most talented youth compete at PNC Park,” said Ravenstahl. “We invite the public to an amazing sporting event, and we encourage them to generously support our chosen charity: the American Heart Association. Over the years, this tournament has supported various local charities including the American Cancer Society and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.”
Citiparks Pittsburgh BIG League Sports is a cooperative effort between Citiparks, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pirates Charities and other partners. Established in 1994, BIG League Sports now hosts a variety of programs that include baseball, softball, hockey, soccer and special programs for teams.
