A field of 15,500 runners and walkers will take to the streets of Pittsburgh on Sunday, Sept. 29, for the 36th running of the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Registration is now closed for the 2013 race – after attracting the largest field of runners and walkers in The Great Race’s 36-year history.
“Today we are pleased to announce that we have reached the 15,500 participant mark and Great Race registration is now closed,” said Interim Race Director Tim Ishman, who serves as assistant director of the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation. “This 2013 field of runners and walkers sets a new record for the race.”
The starting gun for the 2013 Great Race will sound on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 8:00 a.m. in Oakland for the 5K run/walk. The 10K run will begin in Frick Park at 9:30 a.m. The finish line for both distances is in Point State Park.
In addition to presenting sponsor Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, 2013 Great Race sponsors are Dollar Bank, Allegheny Health Network, Bottom Dollar Food, KDKA-TV, Pittsburgh Magazine, Trib Total Media, Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown, Port Authority, Olive Garden and Allegheny Regional Asset District.
