Join the fun at the Junior Tennis Summer Camp at Schenley Park and make new friends from many City of Pittsburgh neighborhoods and from all over the world! Last summer the Junior Tennis Summer Camp welcomed 200 boys and girls. The average age was 8 years old.
The 2016 summer camp runs half-day, every morning, Monday through Friday, beginning, June 13, 2016.
All skill levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced tennis players—are welcome. Kids can bring their own racquets or they may borrow from the camp at no cost.
All camp enthusiasts benefit from the rewards of playing tennis, building self-confidence, learning social skills, and developing good sportsmanship.
Each morning the camp welcomes about 25 to 40 young players for three hours of non-stop action and fun on the tennis courts. Kid-sized racquets, slower balls, smaller courts, and a variety of match formats allow kids to serve and play the game from the first day. They quickly progress to intermediate and advanced levels of play.
Tiny Tots, as young as 4 years old, play collaborative group games from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
All players, ages six or above, play from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in both singles and doubles matches in non-elimination formats, as well as fun group games.
Advanced players also prepare to play and succeed newly-introduced USTA-sanctioned 8 and Under and 10 and Under tournaments. About 12 Citiparks 10 and Under players competed last year, which was the first year of this exciting new opportunity!
A diverse and strong team of five to seven tennis coaches, all certified in PTR Junior Development and the USTA Quickstart tennis approach, lead the daily camp programs. The coaches and program are supported by the USTA 10 and Under Tennis initiatives.
