Allentown and South Side Slope
District 2 shares portions of Allentown and South Side Slopes with District 3.
Allentown is located south of Downtown Pittsburgh surrounded by the southern slope of Mount Washington. District 2 includes Arlington Avenue from Saw Mill Run Boulevard to Roanoke Street. The popular “T”, Pittsburgh’s rapid transit system, runs right through Allentown’s business district.
P.J. McArdle Roadway from the South Side Slopes is now a part of District 2 and takes drivers to the Liberty Bridge and to the top of Mt. Washington's scenic overlook. It reveals a stunning view of Pittsburgh’s skyline and three rivers, from the Point State Park Fountain to the Birmingham Bridge.
Beechview and Brookline
District 2 shares portions of Beechview and Brookline with District 4.
Beechview is located southwest of Downtown, and has always been home to a diverse group of working class families. Council District 2 shares Beechview with District 4. District 2's area includes parts of Wenzell Avenue, Boustead, Coast and Goldstrom and Crane Avenue. Recreational facilities include two parks, four parklets, a public spray park, a senior citizens center and a public library. Brookline is located on the southern side of Pittsburgh, just through the Liberty Tunnels, which is where District 2 occupies and continues to Cape May Avenue. Brookline is the second largest neighborhood in the entire city and is becoming a thriving commercial district.
Brighton Heights, Chateau and Marshall-Shadeland
District 2 shares portions of Brighton Heights, Chateau and Marshall-Shadeland with District 1.
Although District 2 has some residential areas, it is primarily made up of the Industrial centers of Brunot Island, which is accessible only via railroad-bridge or boat, ALCOSAN, and Port Authority of Allegheny County.
Brunot Island is a 129-acre island in the Ohio River comprised of facilities owned and operated by the Duquesne Light utility company.
