Preliminary City Council map unanimously approved
The members of the 2012 Reapportionment Advisory Committee (RAC) have unanimously recommended a preliminary reapportionment plan for the purposes of presentation to the public.

Recommended changes to Pittsburgh City Council districts to be presented at public meetings by the Reapportionment Advisory Committee
At last week’s meeting of the Reapportionment Advisory Committee (RAC) of Pittsburgh City Council, recommended changes to Council districts were unanimously approved for the purpose of presentation at public meetings and to seek community input. After each decennial census, City Council is required to make changes to council districts to reflect the new population distribution throughout the City. Districts are required to be as equal in population as practicable, compact, contiguous, and in compliance with the federal voting rights act. The 2010 Federal Census established the population of the City of Pittsburgh at 305,704--a decrease from 334,563 from the 2000 Census--putting the “ideal” district size at 33,967. Due to the population changes over the last ten years, current districts range in population from 28,695 to 39,259. Members of the public are invited to attend any of four public meetings that the RAC are holding in the month of July. Those wishing to register to speak for up to three minutes must register in advance by contacting the Linda Johnson-Wasler, City Clerk at 412-255-2138. Speakers who do not pre-register may sign up to speak at the meeting, and will be allotted one minute. Final recommendations will be sent to City Council, which has the final authority to reapportion council districts. A list of public meetings follows:
