OCTOBER TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS:

Beechwood Boulevard/Forward Avenue Ramps to Westbound I-376 Parkway East Closure begins Friday Night in Pittsburgh

The ramps that carry traffic from Beechwood Boulevard/Forward Avenue (Ramp A) and Forward Avenue (Ramp C via Ramp A – see attached) to inbound I-376 will close to traffic from Friday night, October 19 at 9 p.m. continuously through 5 a.m. Friday morning, October 26. Crews will conduct bridge dam replacement work on the I-376 bridges over Saline Street and Frazier Street.  All ramp traffic will be detoured.

Beechwood Boulevard/Forward Avenue on-ramp to Westbound (inbound) I-376 toward Pittsburgh (Ramps A and C)
• Follow Beechwood Boulevard past the closed ramp
• Take the ramp to eastbound I-376 toward Monroeville
• Take the Edgewood/Swissvale off-ramp (Exit 77)
• Bear right toward Swissvale
• Turn left onto Monongahela Avenue
• Turn left onto South Braddock Avenue
• Take the ramp to westbound I-376 toward Pittsburgh
• Follow westbound I-376 back to the closed ramp
• End detour

Motorists should consider alternate routes. 

Beechwood Boulevard/Forward Avenue (Ramp A) Alternate Route
• Continue on Beechwood Boulevard past the closed ramp
• Turn left onto Ronald Street
• Turn right onto Greenfield Avenue
• Continue straight onto Second Avenue
• Turn right onto Bates Street
• Turn left onto the Boulevard of the Allies
• Take the ramp to westbound 376 toward Downtown/Fort Pitt Bridge
• End alternate route

Forward Avenue (Ramp C) Alternate Route
• From Forward Avenue, take Murray Avenue northbound to Forbes Avenue
• Turn left onto Forbes Avenue
• Turn right onto South Bellefield Avenue
• Turn left onto Fifth Avenue
• After the Fifth Avenue intersection with Craft Avenue, motorists should stay in the left-hand travel lane (not the bus lane) and turn left onto the ramp toward westbound 376
• Merge onto the Boulevard of the Allies
• Take the ramp to westbound 376 toward Downtown/Fort Pitt Bridge
• End alternate route

Two lanes of inbound I-376 traffic will be maintained between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Frazier Street Bridge. The inbound I-376 off-ramp at the Squirrel Hill/Homestead (Exit 74) interchange will remain open during the work.


Joint repair work on the ramp that carries southbound Rodi Road traffic to eastbound I-376 will occur from 9pm, Tuesday (10/16) to 6am, Wednesday (10/17). To allow PennDOT crews to conduct the work, the ramp will close and traffic will be detoured.

Posted Detour:

  • Continue on southbound Rodi Road past the closed ramp
  • Turn left onto Route 22 (WIlliam Penn Highway)
  • Follow Route 22 to Route 48 (Mosside Blvd)
  • End detour

Improvement work on I-279 Parkway North will continue Monday October 15 through October 19 and November 3, weather permitting.

Daylight restrictions will occur according to the following schedule:

  • Northbound I-279 lane restriction from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day through Saturday, November 3 between the Perrysville Avenue (Exit 5) and Camp Horne Road (Exit 8) interchanges. Crews will conduct cable guiderail installation.

  • Southbound I-279 lane restrictions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day through Saturday, November 3 between the Camp Horne Road (Exit 8) and Perrysville Avenue (Exit 5) interchanges.  Crews will conduct cable guiderail installation.

  • Northbound I-279 shoulder closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day through Friday, October 19 in various locations between the Hazlett Street (Exit 3) and Camp Horne Road (Exit 8) interchanges. Crews will conduct sign foundation construction.


Overnight lane restrictions on I-376 (Parkway East) will continue Monday October 15 though Friday Octoiber 18, weather permitting. Lane restrictions on I-376 in each direction will occur as crews conduct expansion dam replacement preparatory work and miscellaneous construction activities according to the following schedule:

  • Eastbound (outbound) – Between the Fort Pitt Bridge and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange. Eastbound I-376 will be reduced to a single-lane each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m
  • Westbound (inbound)- The far-right lane in the three-lane section between the on-ramp at the Squirrel Hill/Homestead (Exit 74) interchange to the Oakland (Exit 73B) will close to traffic from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. The Squirrel Hill/Homestead on-ramp will be placed in a yield condition until 9 p.m. each night.
  • Westbound (inbound)- The middle lane in the three-lane section between the on-ramp at the Squirrel Hill/Homestead (Exit 74) interchange to the Oakland (Exit 73B) will close to traffic from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. The on-ramp will be placed in a stop condition from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.

Overnight lane restrictions on northbound I-279 (Parkway North) in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will continue Tuesday night, October 10 weather permitting.

Single and double lane restrictions will occur as needed on northbound I-279 between the Suffolk Street Bridge and the McKnight Road/Evergreen Road (Exit 4) interchange from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday nights through Saturday night, October 20.  Crews will conduct sawing and sealing operations.

 

Additionally, daylight lane restrictions will occur according to the following schedule:

  • Northbound I-279 lane restriction from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day through Saturday, October 13 between the Perrysville Avenue (Exit 5) and Camp Horne Road (Exit 8) interchanges. Crews will conduct cable guiderail installation.
  • Southbound I-279 lane restrictions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day through Saturday, October 13 between the Camp Horne Road (Exit 8) and Perrysville Avenue interchanges.  Crews will conduct cable guiderail installation.
  • Northbound I-279 lane restriction from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day through Friday, October 19 between the East Street Bridge and Suffolk Street Bridge. Crews will conduct moment slab work.
  • Northbound I-279 shoulder closure from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day through Friday, October 19 at the McKnight Road/Evergreen Road (Exit 4) interchange.  Crews will conduct lighting and electrical upgrades.
  • Southbound I-279 shoulder closure from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day through Friday, October 19 at the East Street (Exit 4) interchange.  Crews will conduct lighting and electrical upgrades.

 

In order to continue progress with the Parkway East Improvement project crews will be conducting expansion dam replacement work on the I-376 bridges over Frazier and Saline Streets weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. according to the following schedule:

October 1st thru 5th. M-F Nights

October 8th thru 12th . M-F Nights

October 15th thru 19th. M-F Nights

Crews will be drilling holes to locate girder top flanges, saw cutting concrete,  jackhammer demolition of shoulders and parapets and forming underside and overhangs for the expansion dam replacements.
