About the Projects

Each semester, graduate students from local universities collaborate with the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Innovation and Performance on projects to aid in improving the City's internal operations.

Spring 2016

  • CITY OF PITTSBURGH WEBSITE REDESIGN: :Students from the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences were tasked with formulating a capstone outlining the City of Pittsburgh website redesign. The capstone presentation was broken down into five research areas:
    • Content Architecture
    • User Experience
    • Content Management and Governance
    • Social Media
    • Data Analytics

The effort put forth by the Pitt SIS students will be a valuable resource for the Department of Innovation & Performance Web Team to reference.

Summer 2016

  • 311 Response Center Analysis:  Students from the Duquesne University School of Business MBA Sustainability Program recently presented their results from a Capstone Project aimed at improving 311's customer service and increasing awareness of 311 services. Recommendations included:
    • Creation of a video highlighting MyBurgh, the 311 mobile application, by our cable team
    • Closing the gap to ensure that requests are completed in a timely manner

I&P aims to transform Pittsburgh into a world-class city through the intersections of technology, sustainability, and performance. While separate, like rotating wheel cogs, the three areas will only move forward when working together.
