In honor of the City's 250th anniversary, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is inviting residents to join in the fun at a "Summer Celebration" on Saturday, August 23, on the City's North Shore.
The Summer Celebration, presented by First National Bank, will feature non-stop musical entertainment, a Kids Zone and classic car cruise. The festivities will take place from Noon to 8 p.m. outside PNC Park.
"We're excited to offer a full day of free family fun on Pittsburgh's beautiful North Shore," said Mayor Ravenstahl. "Bring along a lawn chair for a front-row seat at the main stage on Federal Street. The impressive lineup of musical entertainers truly showcases the best of Pittsburgh and will appeal to music lovers of all types, whether R & B, jazz, rock or doo-wop."
A Kid's Zone, located on Isabella Street, will feature a variety of activities including the Citiparks Roving Art Cart, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary season this summer.
"Since the 1970s, the Citiparks Roving Art Cart has brought creative experiences to the children of Pittsburgh," said Mayor Ravenstahl. "Art encourages children to use their imaginations and express themselves. While having fun they're actually learning many important skills, such as problem solving, visualizing and reasoning."
Throughout the day, General Robinson Street and Parking Lot #6 will set the stage for a classic car cruise.
Individuals interested in displaying cars should register on August 23 between 10 a.m. - Noon at Parking Lot #6. The participation fee will be $5 per car, with all proceeds benefiting the Pittsburgh Promise Scholarship Fund.
"First National Bank is proud to support the City of Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary," said Susan Bergen-Painter, chief marketing officer for First National Bank. "First National Bank is honored to be in a position to provide the financial support needed to celebrate such a worthy milestone for the City."
