Members of the Mayor's newly formed Pittsburgh's Contracting Best Practices Commission met for the first time today at 10 a.m. in the Mayor's Conference Room to begin the conversation on how to improve transparency, opportunity and efficiency in City and Authority contracting procedures.
"We had a very productive and enthusiastic first meeting," Mayor Ravenstahl said. "The commission members bring a lot of experience, energy, and dedication to the table and I am confident they will bring forth the best recommendations to infuse better transparency, opportunity and efficiency into the contracting process."
Members were introduced to the procurement processes and began to brainstorm best practice items that need to be included in the request for proposal (RFP). The commission will draft and award the RFP based on how vendors meet the defined scope of services.
The Mayor announced the commission on October 1 and will provide recommendations to the Mayor within five months. The Mayor and County Executive Dan Onorato last week hosted a Small Business Contracting Seminar in an effort to reach out to regional businesses about contracting opportunities. More than 230 small businesses attended the seminar.
