Four City Affordable Housing Developments Awarded Housing Tax Credits
Funding provided by PHFA will be allocated to construction and rehabilitation

PITTSBURGH, PA (July 14, 2016) - Mayor William Peduto proudly announced today that the Wolf Administration has awarded low income housing tax credits to four multifamily affordable housing developments in the City of Pittsburgh.  

Low Income Housing Tax Credits provide a dollar-for-dollar federal tax reduction to developers in exchange for the creation or preservation of affordable housing to low income individuals and families. 

"These four investments are the result of our strong commitment to building more affordable neighborhoods throughout our city, so that all residents may share in our growing prosperity," said Mayor Peduto. 

The four developments that were awarded low income housing tax credits are:    

Morningside Crossing 

  • 1802 Jancey Street  Pittsburgh, PA 15206
  • Total Units: 46
  • Tax Credit Amount: $1,195,048

a.m. Rodriguez Associates, Inc., is converting and rehabilitating the former Morningside School into an 85% affordable (46 units) senior development that will include a first floor senior center to be operated by the City of Pittsburgh. Morningside Crossing was selected by a jury of affordable housing professionals for a funding award under the “Innovation in Design” category.  

 

Miller Street Apartments 

  • 318 Miller Street  Pittsburgh, PA 15219
  • Total Units: 36
  • Tax Credit Amount: $999,866 

Bridging the Gap Development LLC is developing a new 36-unit five story apartment building on Miller Street in the Crawford-Roberts neighborhood of the city.  This facility will include a program designed to provide job training to residents in partnership with the nearby Energy Innovation Center.  

 

Oakland Affordable Living 

  • 2561 Allequippa Street 
  • 2528-2544 Allequippa Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213
  • Total Units: 49
  • Tax Credit Amount: $1,184,405 

Oakland Planning and Development Corporation is developing the Oakland Affordable Living Development that includes both new construction and the preservation of Allequippa Place, one of the first LIHTC developments in Pennsylvania. This is a CDC owned and developed project. 

 

Squirrel Hill Gateway Apartments 

  • 2607 Murray Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217
  • Total Units: 33
  • Tax Credit Amount: $1,117,171 

ACTION-Housing, Inc.'s development of Squirrel Hill Gateway will include 33 new affordable units, 50% of which will serve residents with intellectual and psychological disabilities, an office for Jewish Residential Services and an expanded Levin Clubhouse. Squirrel Hill Gateway will be in close proximity to public transit and shopping opportunities.
