PITTSBURGH, PA (January 22, 2015) - The City of Pittsburgh today launched the first phase of the Online Facility Reservations website. For the first time in city history, residents can now visit the new registration site, create an online account and view available facilities.
Online shelter reservations will officially be accepted starting Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. The city will no longer host an annual Permit Day for in person registration, as in past years. In person reservations will still be accepted at the Public Works Permit Office starting at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11.
“Pittsburgh has developed a well-earned reputation as a technologically savvy city, and I’m thrilled that city government is now embracing that too. This is just the latest way we’re making city services smarter and more efficient for our residents,” Mayor William Peduto said.
Shelters are available for rent up to 365 days in advance on a rolling basis. All shelter rentals are available on a first come first serve basis. Online shelter rentals must be completed 72 hours before the desired date; during the 72 hour window prior to the desired date, residents must contact the Public Works Permit Office to see if it is still possible to get a permit for the shelter.
A Frequently Asked Questions list for Online Facility Rentals -- including a description of online payment methods -- can be found here.
A step-by-step guide for creating an online account and reserving a shelter can be found here.
The online Shelter Guide provides high-level information about the location, capacity, and amenities of each city shelter. The park-specific Shelter Information Sheets have pictures of each shelter along with a map of the park showing each shelter’s location.
The Online Facility Rentals Site has been a collaborative effort among the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Innovation and Performance. Existing agreements with RecPro software and Paymentus are utilized in the site.
City department have been using RecPro software since 2011. The Public Works Permit Office uses RecPro to track shelter permits and field permits. The Department Parks and Recreation uses RecPro to record attendance at City Recreation Centers.
The online permitting process also utilizes the city’s existing contract with the online payment provider Paymentus. Paymentus facilitates all of the city's credit card processing services. Paymentus and RecPro worked together on an integration that passes data from RecPro during an online permitting transaction over to Paymentus for payment purposes.
For assistance or questions, contact the Public Works Permit Office at (412) 255-2370 or visit the Permit Office at 611 Second Avenue during the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.
The Online Facility Reservations site is a part of the Peduto administration’s continued focus on making lasting investments in innovation and technology that will transform how the city operates for decades. To date the administration has championed civic engagement tools like the Snow Plow Tracker site, Open Data legislation, Engage Pittsburgh site, and Nextdoor; redesigned service delivery through its new @Pgh311 Twitter account; implemented the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system; partnered with Allegheny County, and local universities and foundations on information sharing; and is working on long-term plans to collect real-time data from all city departments.
