PITTSBURGH, PA (March 17, 2015) - Mayor William Peduto today unveiled plans for the new City of Pittsburgh Summer Internship Program that will be orchestrated by the Department of Personnel & Civil Service Commision.
“Education and work experience are the perfect tandem for developing the future leaders of our city and our nation,” said Mayor Peduto. “Our goals are to provide students with meaningful projects to enhance their skills in their field of study and give these young minds an opportunity to learn about city government.”
The program will feature paid and unpaid internships in varying departments throughout the city, starting on June 8th, 2015. The summer program is scheduled to end in mid-August 2015. Paid positions average about $10.00/hour but vary by department. Mayor Peduto has encouraged each department to commit to taking as many interns as possible for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
The Department of Personnel & Civil Service Commission has created a centralized application process for both paid and unpaid internships with the City of Pittsburgh. Current students interested in applying for an internship can create an online profile in the Employment Center System. Available internships will be listed on the Current Job Openings page.
The deadline for Summer 2015 applications is April 20, 2015 at 4:00 p.m.
