Mayor Lauds City-Wide Earth Day Celebration
2015 marks the largest Earth Day celebration in city's history

PITTSBURGH, PA (April 22, 2015) - The City of Pittsburgh and Office of Mayor William Peduto proudly support the 2015 Earth Day celebrations taking place throughout the city today.

Event organizers from Pittsburgh Earth Day and the Everpower Earth Day Festival have collaborated to bring the largest Earth Day celebration in the city’s history to Pittsburgh.

“My goal has continually been to make Pittsburgh a most livable city for all people,” said Mayor William Peduto. “This celebration is a true demonstration of the entire community’s commitment to transformative growth through sustainable, innovative and green initiatives.”

Feature events will be held throughout the day in Market Square, Mellon Square and Schenley Plaza. Supporting events hosted by sponsors and partners will take place at hotels, restaurants, businesses and other public spaces around the city. The days events will feature education about best practices at home or at work, hands on activities for kids and adults, live music, recognition of environmental leaders, remarks from public officials and corporate entities, local green businesses and non-profits, healthy activities, and complimentary classes and workshops.

Seedlings from the annual City of Pittsburgh and Tree Pittsburgh tree seedling giveaway will be available in Market Square.

Festivities today are free, all ages and open to the public. Rain or shine.
