PITTSBURGH, PA (January 10, 2016) - The City of Pittsburgh has issued a Snow Level 1 Alert effective 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, through Noon Tuesday, January 12.
The City of Pittsburgh Snow Plow Tracker was activated at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Approximately 17 vehicles were dispatched starting at 2:00 p.m. Temperatures are not expected to drop to freezing or below freezing until Sunday evening from 5-6:00 p.m.
From 2-6:00 p.m. today crews are monitoring surfaces that are more likely to experience freezing conditions due to wet snow and high winds: bridges, ramps and concrete/cobblestone/brick streets. Night turn personnel - approximately 34 vehicles - have been called in early and will work from 6:00 p.m. Sunday until 6:00 a.m. Monday to treat primary, secondary and tertiary routes.
The actual snow event is forecasted from 2:00 p.m. today until Noon on Monday, January 11. Less than one inch of snow is expected over the 22 hour period. The Snow Alert is effective until Noon on Tuesday to allow crews 24 hours after the snow event has ended to treat city streets.
Environmental Services refuse collection remains on schedule for Monday. Should refuse pick-up be postponed Monday morning, Monday pick-ups will be collected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Residents are reminded to visit the City of Pittsburgh Snow Resource Center www.pittsburghpa.gov/snow for all weather related information.
