PITTSBURGH, PA (May 30, 2016) – Mayor William Peduto today made a friendly wager with San José Mayor Sam Liccardo ahead of the NHL Stanley Cup Final series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks.
The wager is this:
The losing Mayor will make a donation to the winning Mayor's charity of choice and take a photo (to be posted on social media) wearing the captain jersey of the Stanley Cup Championship team the day following the final game of the series; the jersey will also be donated to the winning Mayor's charity of choice to be auctioned off as a fundraiser.
Mayor Peduto’s charity of choice is the Hill House Association.
Mayor Liccardo’s charity of choice is Destination: Home.
The losing mayor will also send a gift basket full of local goodies to the winning mayor (i.e. Primanti Brothers sandwiches and Heinz Ketchup products from Pittsburgh; Gordon Biersch garlic fries/beer and La Victoria’s famous orange sauce from San José.)
“As a hockey fan I have a lot of respect for any team that makes it to the Cup Final,” said Mayor William Peduto. “Pittsburgh is very proud of the Penguins but we know they still have more work to do. When it comes to the Penguins and Sharks, sharks may control the waters but we all know that penguins dominate on the ice. Let’s Go Pens!”
“There’s no chance for a penguin against a shark, either in nature or on the ice,” said Mayor Sam Liccardo. “We’re fired up to bring the Stanley Cup home to San José, and write the next chapter in a story that’s been 25 years in the making.”
The puck drops for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final series in Pittsburgh tonight at 8:00 p.m. at CONSOL Energy Center.
Penguins fans not attending the game tonight are reminded to watch Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on the First Niagara Big Screen inside the First Niagara Fan Zone located at the Peoples Gate of CONSOL Energy Center. The First Niagara Fan Zone opens 3 hours before game time.
