PITTSBURGH, PA (October 27, 2016) Mayor William Peduto and the City of Pittsburgh Department of Innovation & Performance are pleased to launch the public engagement phase of the City's upgraded digital presence, through a new site called alpha.pittsburghpa.gov.
Alpha.pittsburghpa.gov is the first step towards creating a brand new pittsburghpa.gov website. Its goal is to create an open dialog between the I&P web development team and City of Pittsburgh residents.
Alpha will feature articles and videos detailing the design and development of the next generation of the City homepage. Additionally, Alpha will feature opportunities for residents to comment on development decisions, track overall progress and learn about other ways they can be involved.
"Alpha will bring City residents directly and transparently into planning for our new homepage, and ensure the final product mirrors what residents want and need," Mayor Peduto said.
The launch of Alpha follows one of the action items calling for better web City services in the I&P Inclusive Innovation Roadmap. It says "Websites should be a clear and navigable means to find important information about City services and events. Improving the digital face of the City will enable better government interaction."
Chief of Innovation and Performance Debra Lam saId, "We want to ensure the website better promotes and highlights both the City of Pittsburgh's work and identity. Whether you are connecting to 311 on a service, viewing our City Cable Channel programming, liking our latest tweets, or seeking out the pool schedule, the website serves as our integrated digital platform for all users wherever they are in Pittsburgh and beyond."
Alpha.pittsburghpa.gov is a part of a larger effort to include a diverse group of community voices in the design and development of City web services. “Alpha on the Road” will feature team members talking with City residents in their communities regarding how pittsburghpa.gov can better serve them. The first tour stop will be on November 10th as part of Inclusive Innovation Live.
"We need everyone’s voices involved to create an accessible, usable website that serves us as neighbors, entrepreneurs and citizens," said Richard Marmura, Digital Engagement Content Supervisor.
