Drawings must be specific for the permit. Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Alarm, and Sprinkler System drawings will not be accepted with a building permit submission. Separate applications must be made for each permit type, and the required drawings must accompany each application. If project scope has been modified after a permit has been issued, an amended permit may be required. Please refer to the Amended Permit Bulletin for an outline of that process.
Residential Building Permits are required for work to be performed on single or two-family dwellings. Work performed on all other buildings require Commercial building permits, this includes multifamily buildings with three or more units and mixed-use buildings with residential units and commercial spaces.
Work Not Requiring a Permit
Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, counter tops and similar finish work.
One-story detached accessory structures used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses, provided the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet.
Water tanks supported directly upon grade if the capacity does not exceed five thousand (5,000) gallons (eighteen thousand nine hundred twenty-seven (18,927) L) and the ratio of height to diameter or width does not exceed 2 to 1.
Window awnings supported by an exterior wall which do not project more than fifty-four (54) inches (one thousand three hundred seventy-two (1,372) mm) from the exterior wall and do not require additional support..
