BUILDING STANDARDS & CODE

Uniform Construction Codes

Construction in the City of Pittsburgh is regulated by Pennsylvania’s statewide building code known as the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). The PA Department of Labor & Industry publicizes UCC regulations.

The UCC has adopted, in whole or part, the International Code Council’s (ICC) I-codes under these regulations and statuses.  Please refer to this comprehensive list of adopted codes.

The City of Pittsburgh amended the UCC under City of Pittsburgh's Code of Ordinances - Title 10.  These local amendments remain applicable as the UCC is updated by the Commonwealth.  While the City Ordinances reference specific 2003 I-code code sections, these amendments are enforced based on the code provision or topic.
