MAYOR ISSUES EMERGENCY DECLARATION
Urges Residents, Businesses To Prepare For Possible Flood Event By Friday Evening

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl urged those who are located within the low-lying areas as indicated by the flood plain maps to prepare now for an increased threat of flooding this weekend and to be ready for possible evacuation. The City is taking steps to ensure that public safety personnel are ready to respond and the Mayor today issued an emergency declaration. Residents located in the low-lying areas may be urged to evacuate. Evacuation shelters are being identified in the key areas of the North Side, Esplen and Hays.

"We have been given as much advanced warning as possible that a flood is highly likely to occur this weekend," Ravenstahl said. "If you haven't already done so, elevate items in your basement, protect your utilities, prepare your 72-hour All-Emergency kit and be ready to evacuate if the order is given. Check on your neighbors, especially the elderly and help to make sure they have the support that they need to get through this very serious situation."

Prepare Now

  • In the event that you lose power, know how you will stay tuned to the latest emergent information
  • Have a 72-hour All-Emergency kit
  • Be ready to evacuate if the order is given
  • Start moving valuable items out of basements to prevent loss of property
  • Elevate furnaces, water heaters and electric panels to higher floors if susceptible to flooding
  • Protect your utilities from water; turn them off if they're compromised
