(PITTSBURGH) August 13, 2013 The City of Pittsburgh's Department of Public Works advises that construction roadwork on Penn Avenue will begin on Monday, August 19, 2013 and continue through December 2014.
The construction zone will extend from the Penn Avenue and Mathilda Street intersection to the Penn Avenue and Evaline Street intersection. Improvements will include total removal and replacement of the street and sidewalk, installation of water drainage piping, installation of light poles and traffic signals, improvements to accessibility ramps, and placement of features such as recycling containers, illuminated benches, trees and water retention pits.
The construction project will be completed by MATCON Diamond Inc. For the first 30 days of the project, construction will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday, with hours on Friday as necessary. Following that period, construction will occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursday, with hours on Friday as necessary.
Drivers can expect lane restrictions and delays during the construction period. One inbound lane to Downtown will be kept open at all times; lanes in the opposite direction will be rerouted around the project site via Main Street, Liberty Avenue, and Negley Avenue.
