CITY OF PITTSBURGH HOLDS RIBBON CUTTING CELEBRATION FOR SCHENLEY PARK SKATING RINK 

Pittsburgh, PA – Lace up your skates and get ready to enjoy a fun-filled season of ice skating at the Schenley Park Skating Rink.  The City of Pittsburgh will celebrate the opening of the outdoor rink on Tuesday, November 19 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30pm.   

The Department of Public Works encountered a few issues during the necessary upgrade of the chilling equipment. Those issues prevented the 2023-24 season from taking place. Now that the work is completed, we are ready to skate.  

“The installation of the new chillers will ensure outdoor skating continues at Schenley Park for years to come,” said CitiParks Director Kathryn Vargas.  “It’s especially exciting as we enter into this current season, as we will celebrate 50 years of skating at the Rink!” 

DPW has completed the replacement of the aging chiller system, which was having difficulty keeping the ice viable, with costs totaling an estimated $3.5 million.   Allegheny Regional Asset District helped make the new chiller system a reality, generously contributing $2 million in funding (of which $1.67 million has been encumbered so far). 

Schenley Park Skating Rink operates seven days a week and offers a variety of public skating sessions and several special skating events. 

SPECIAL SKATING EVENTS: 

Skate with Santa - Sunday, December 15, 2024 1:30-3 PM 

Mascot Skate - Saturday, January 25, 2025 1:30-3 PM (On-line tickets only) 

Disco Night - Saturday, February 1, 2025 (adults only) 8-9:30 PM 

Valentine's On Ice - Friday, February 14, 2025 7-9 PM. Brought to you by CitiParks' Office of Special Events—On-Line Tickets ONLY, details coming soon! 

Family Skate – Thursdays: 6:30-8 PM (One Child Skates Free with a Paying Adult) 

Admission to the Schenley Park Skating Rink is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors & veterans (with ID) and $3 for youth (17 years old or younger).  Skate Rentals are available for $3/skater.  Tuesdays (8:30-10 PM Session), Wednesdays (1:30-3 PM Session) and Sundays (6-7:30 PM Session) College Students can receive a $4 ticket (with ID).  Schenley Park Skating Rink accepts credit cards, Google Pay and Apple Pay at the Box Office.  Admission ticket are also available on-line HERE
