Fire, EMS, & Police Respond to Fire along Three Rivers Heritage Trail

Summary:

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024, passing motorists reported seeing thick black smoke originating from the right descending bank of the Ohio River, appearing to come from underneath the north end of the West End Bridge.

Pittsburgh Fire, EMS, Police responded to the area.

Pittsburgh Fire 37 Engine arrived to identify it as a trash fire consisting of varying types of debris. The Fire Bureau was able to contain the blaze within a short time frame, along with the assistance of 33 Truck and River Rescue with access from the Ohio River. No witnesses or occupants were found on scene. The fire destroyed two wooden structures.

The Fire Investigation Unit responded to the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
