Police, Fire, EMS Respond to Fatal Construction Accident in N. Oakland

Summary:
Just before 8:00 a.m., Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to the 400 block of Melwood Avenue in North Oakland for reports of a construction worker having fallen from scaffolding.
Within minutes, medics were on scene and located an adult male victim with significant, grave injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene at 8:01 a.m.
Witnesses describe that the victim was working on the exterior of the building, nine stories high, and fell to the ground.
Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Unit detectives responded per departmental protocol, which is anytime there is a fatality. VCU detectives are working closely with OSHA detectives and they will examine any and all available evidence.
The investigation is very active and ongoing.
The victim's identity will be released by the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner
Melwood Avenue is closed from approximately 450 Melwood Avenue to Baum Boulevard while the investigation is underway.
