Incident Type: Fire
Location: Zone 2
Summary:

At approximately 5:20 p.m., Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to the Three Rivers Arts Festival food court at Fort Duquesne Boulevard and 8th Street in Downtown for reports of a fire with one individual sustaining burn injuries.

Firefighters were quickly on the scene and the fire was rapidly extinguished. Initially it was thought a propane tank had exploded, however investigators determined the incident was caused by an over pressurized propane tank that caught fire.

A food service employee working at one of the vendor tents sustained second degree burns to his arms and lower legs. The 28-year-old male victim was alert, conscious, and speaking with responders. He was transported by Pittsburgh EMS to an area hospital in stable condition.

This was an accidental and isolated incident.

Area roads were swiftly reopened with only the food court remaining closed. The Allegheny County Health Department will make the final determination when the food court is able to reopen.

All festival entertainment and exhibitions will continue as scheduled.
