Police Make Arrest for Ethnic Intimidation & Mischief in Squirrel Hill

Summary:

On Monday, April 8, 2024, Pittsburgh Police Zone 4 plainclothes detectives received an email from the Shaare Torah Synagogue that included several photographs of a male inscribing a possible hate symbol on the doors of the synagogue.

This was originally reported to police as a "Star of David", but upon further examination and additional photographs, it closely resembled a hate symbol used by the KKK. Following consultation with the District Attorney's Office, police arrested William Murray, 33, of Pittsburgh.

Murray is charged with Ethnic Intimidation, Institutional Vandalism, and Criminal Mischief.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 14, 2024.
