Just after 9:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, Pittsburgh Fire was dispatched to the 2100 block of Park Hill Drive in East Hills for reports of a structure fire with several entrapped individuals.
Arriving responders located an adult female and her two female children—aged two-years-old and six-years-old—entrapped on the third floor. Pittsburgh Police officers and East Hills security officers actively assisted firefighters in the rescue attempt.
The adult female was transported by Pittsburgh EMS to an area hospital in serious condition with burn injuries and smoke inhalation. She left the hospital a short time later.
The six-year-old female was transported in critical condition to Children’s Hospital with burn injuries and smoke inhalation. She is currently reported to be in stable condition.
The two-year-old female was transported in grave condition to Children’s Hospital with burn injuries and smoke inhalation. She was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The two East Hills security officers were evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation. One was transported in stable condition for further medical evaluation. He was released a short time later.
While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, it is not currently thought to have started due to an electrical issue/a malfunctioning space heater.
