On May 1, 2024, VPU detectives, with the assistance of Narcotics detectives working in the area of Market Square, identified a male who had been part of large groups of juveniles getting into sporadic fights downtown recently.
The same male was observed swinging at a female at one point. Detectives tried to approach him and speak with him when he fled on foot and discarded a backpack.
The 17-year-old was taken into custody a short distance away and the backpack was recovered. It was found to contain a revolver with an obliterated serial number.
The male was processed and juvenile probation took him into custody placement.
