Pittsburgh Police Make Significant Narcotics Arrests in Zone 3

In the last week, Zone 3 and SouthSide Entertainment Patrol officers made two significant arrests, clearing one warrant and recovering a large amount of narcotics intended for delivery, as well as one stolen firearm.
While on patrol in the South Side Entertainment District on March 8, officers identified a male known to have an arrest warrant from the City of Pittsburgh Narcotics Unit.
Steven Silverman was detained at S. 23 and Carey Way. Search incident to arrest recovered a large amount of cocaine individually packaged, close to $800 in U.S. currency, and a firearm reported stolen out of Butler County.
Silverman was charged with Persons Not to Possess, Use, Manufacture, Control, Receiving Stolen Property, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, as well as felony and misdemeanor narcotics violations.
He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail without incident.
On March 7, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Arlington Avenue. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed marijuana and narcotics paraphernalia as well as the fresh odor of marijuana smoke emanating from the vehicle. The driver was detained and officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle.
More than 200 marijuana joints, as well as multiple pre-packaged cannabis products intended for sale, $467 in U.S. currency, and drug packaging paraphernalia were recovered from the vehicle.
Andre Umphrey was arrested and charged with multiple felony counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver, as well as several driving and vehicle violations, including a suspended license.
He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
