Celebrating National Summer Learning Week

On July 11, Summer 19 celebrated National Summer Learning Week by hosting a tour to highlight some of the partnerships and wonderful summer opportunities offered in Pittsburgh. We were joined by 25 people from 13 different organizations.

The day began with inspiring young panelists who reminded us that the future is bright and full of potential as they shared about their summer internships through the Learn and Earn program by Partner4Work.

Next, we checked out Little Dreamers Academy to learn about the partnership between Pittsburgh Public Schools and Children's Museum of Pittsburgh.

We also visited Slb Radio Productions Inc to see how young scholars from The Heinz Endowments’ 2019 Summer Youth Philanthropy Program are working to produce documentaries about local social justice issues. We can't wait to hear the final product!

Finally the tour stopped at Camp King to experience the magic of PPS Summer Dreamers Academy. We learned about the camp as a whole, and then visited classes with activities provided by an array of Out of School Time providers, including Allegheny Land Trust, Snapology, and Common Threads. Thank you to the wonderfully loving and enthusiastic team of Camp King and to all of the Out of School Time providers who keep our kids inspired all summer long!
