The HirePgh grant program is a partnership between the City of Pittsburgh and the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania with the goal of incentivizing Pittsburgh businesses to hire City residents that are recipients of the Pittsburgh Promise and retain more young talent within the local Pittsburgh economy. Alumni of the Pittsburgh Promise are eligible to apply for the grant along with their new place of employment. Applications will be subject to a merit-based review process by the HirePgh Grant Advisory Committee.

Program Requirements

  • The newly-hired individual must be an alumni of the Pittsburgh Promise, meaning they must have utilized a Promise scholarship and earned a certificate or degree from an accredited institution.
  • The application must be submitted within 12 months of the new hire’s offer and acceptance of employment.
  • The new hire’s position must be a full-time position. Part-time employment, internships, apprenticeships, and similar positions won’t be considered.
  • The employer must be located within the City of Pittsburgh.


You can download the HirePgh application here. Applications can be submitted starting March 26. The first portion of the application must be completed by the alumni and the second portion must be completed by the employer. Please submit completed application forms and personal statements by May 1, 2018, to the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania, 436 Seventh Ave., Suite 2220, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
