Safety Town
Safe Routes to School introduced Safety Town to Kindergarten and 1st grade students at Pittsburgh Faison's summer program. Students engaged in 1-hour week long safety program teaching them bike, pedestrian, traffic and school bus safety. They road pedaled go-karts riding around a miniature town complete with streets, crosswalks, sidewalks, stop signs and a working traffic signal. Students were visited by BikePGH to discuss bike safety and how to properly fit a helmet. City of Pittsburgh EMS workers and School Crossing Guards shared how to walk safely, while PennDOT taught the importance of using safe behavior on the school bus. Each student received a new helmet, safety town t-shirt and a certificate for participating in Safety Town.
