Christmas Tree Recycling Program
In an effort to provide a sustainable alternative for residents to dispose of their trees after the holiday season, the City offered temporary drop off locations from December 26-January 26. As a result, 21 tons of Christmas Trees were diverted from the landfill! With such a success, the City and Environmental Services are looking forward to improving and continuing the Christmas tree recycling program.
After collection, trees were taken to the Forestry Division where some of them were sent to Wood Waste Recycling and others were chipped onsite into mulch for residents to pick up. Individuals may find the pine mulch useful for vegetable gardens and other beautification projects. Residents interested in picking up mulch for their 2019 spring garden may attend four Saturday collection events at Forestry Division headquarters in Highland Park and must bring their own buckets, gloves and shovels.
