The Peduto administration is proud to support local entrepreneurs this holiday season. With the help of neighbors we can support Pittsburgh’s local economy by shopping with our locally owned small businesses. When we do business locally, two-thirds of every dollar spent stays in the local economy as opposed to a little over one-third when you shop with national chains. Along with the benefits to Pittsburgh’s economy, our local merchants offer a personalized shopping experience to help you find the perfect gift for everyone on your list. We are very proud of our neighborhood groups who are working together to plan fun events and offer various deals around the city starting on Small Business Saturday and carrying through the holidays. Additionally, The Pittsburgh Parking will offer free meter parking (not garages) for Small Business Saturday, in addition to Thanksgiving, and the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Small Business Saturday is a day created out of the recession in 2010 to help small businesses get more customers. Nine years later officials in all 50 states participate in the event. Many of Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods participate annually with events and incentives for shopping locally!
The Bloomfield Development Corporation's Board of Directors will be hosting an event at Spill Wine Bar from 11am-2pm. Stop by to get the scoop on all the great small business Saturday and holiday shopping deals, enter the raffle for great Bloomfield gear, have some refreshments, and talk to the board about what's going on in Bloomfield from new stores and restaurants, to mobility and transportation plans and much more.
Brookline Together is hosting a Brookline Lights Up Celebration this Small Business Saturday. Residents are encouraged to visit the local merchants in the business district of Brookline Blvd from 3-6pm for great events such as, movies & hot chocolate, face painting, photos with Santa, a toy drive, a tree lighting at Canon Park, and other events throughout the day!
The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP) is promoting Downtown’s small businesses through the PDP Holiday Shopping Passport Program. The Passport Program will kick off on Small Business Saturday on November 30 and will run through December 23. On Small Business Saturday, the PDP will have a Small Business Saturday information tent at the Peoples Gas Holiday Market™ in Market Square from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. to distribute shopping passports, free swag, and information.
Special prizes generously donated from Downtown businesses will be awarded to people who shop local on Small Business Saturday (November 30) and return their completed passports to any participating store or to the PDP information booth at the Peoples Gas Holiday Market™ in Market Square. Additional prizes will be raffled off to participants who return their completed passports each week leading up to the final day of the Peoples Gas Holiday Market™ in Market Square ending on December 23.
The Homewood-Brushton Business Association (HBBA) will have a “Passport to Homewood” program that will include numerous discounts by local businesses in Homewood. The program will start on November 30th and run through January 1st.
Oakland will have promortions starting near Small Business Saturday and lasting throughout the holidays. There will be a tree lighting event that also occurs on December 6th that will tie into their "Shop Small, Shop Oakland" campaign. Small Business Saturday materials will be distributed throughout the business district to promote shopping small all season long.
The 4th Annual Northside Small Business on Saturday, November 30th features a Multi-Main Street day full of shopping specials on retail, food & drink, plus in-store sampling and giveaways, sidewalk sales plus bags full of neighborhood pride at each Mom & Pop Shop in the following business districts: Deutschtown, Allegheny West, Chateau, Mexican War Streets, Brighton Heights, Marshall-Shadeland, Observatory Hill, Perry Hilltop, and Troy Hill.
Uncover Squirrel Hill will be promoting Small Business Saturday on Saturday November 23rd. Squirrel Hill and reminding shoppers to support their favorite local shops and restaurants. Many businesses will have extended hours all weekend, special in store sales and discounts, and several restaurants are offering gift card promotions.
