Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Responds to 4-Alarm Fire on the South Side

Date: February 8, 2021
Incident Type: Fire
Location: Fire Zone 4-24
Summary:

Just before 3 p.m. the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to the 1100 block of E. Carson Street for reports of a large amount of smoke coming from the roof of a commercial structure.

The fire was initially a 2-alarm response, which rapidly grew to four alarms as the fire progressed quickly through the 4-storey building. There were no injuries and no one was reported missing from the apartments located on the upper floors. EMS was standing by.

In anticipation of a partial collapse of the building after thousands of gallons of water were used to fight the fire, firefighters moved personnel and equipment safely out of harm's way.

PLI responded to the scene and E. Carson Street was closed between 10th Street and 12th Street as the building is slated for demolition in the morning.

Police and Fire are securing the scene overnight.

The Fire Investigation Unit will investigate the cause of the fire.
