Pittsburgh EMS, Fire and Police responded to the 100 block of N Highland Avenue for a report of smoke coming from a window around 11:40 a.m.
When first responders arrived, they were directed inside the structure to where the smoke was seen coming from. Firefighters entered the room and observed fresh burn marks on a mattress, but no flames.
A male was located nearby who jumped from an open window in the room. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition with a fractured leg.
The fourth floor and below sustain water damage. There were no other injuries.
The Fire Investigations Unit arrived to process the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
