Pittsburgh Bureau of Police officers from Zone 2 responded to a report of a silent hold-up alarm activation at the Dollar Bank in the 500 block of Smithfield Street just after 2 p.m.
When officers arrived, the bank was on lock down and police were directed to a female teller who confirmed there had been a robbery at her bank post.
She told police that a male approached her with a written note demanding cash. The teller removed cash from her drawer and the suspect took it and exited the bank onto Smithfield Street.
The male suspect is described as thin, height unknown. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a tan baseball cap, sunglasses, a tan dress suit with a white dress shirt and a brown striped tie.
Robbery detectives are investigating.
