Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to the 600 block of Penn Avenue around 11:30 p.m. for reports of a fire inside the Roosevelt Arms.
Firefighters activated the high rise plan for the 14 story structure, going from floor to floor to evacuate residents to safety. Residents took refuge on Port Authority buses and inside one local business on Sixth Street.
The fire was contained to one unit on the tenth floor and it was extinguished. There were no reports of injuries or transports to the hospital.
The exact cause is under investigation.
The Red Cross was notified in the event some residents require temporary assistance or accommodations. The Salvation Army was also on site.
