Date: March 30, 2022
Incident Type: Carjacking, Attempted Kidnapping, Attempted Robbery
Location: Zone 2
Summary:

UPDATE: 04/01/22 3:27 p.m. An arrest warrant has been approved for Malik Joshua Johnson, 24, of Horsham, PA in connection with this incident. Johnson faces multiple charges including kidnapping, robbery, robbery of a motor vehicle, unlawful restraint, and false imprisonment.

On Friday, March 25 at 8:20 p.m., Zone 2 officers responded to 1100 Liberty Avenue Downtown for reports of a carjacking, attempted kidnapping and attempted robbery outside the Amtrak station.

The female victim told officers she was waiting in her vehicle for her boyfriend when an unknown male jumped into the passenger side of her vehicle and demanded money. The victim told him she did not have any cash and offered to pay the suspect by Venmo. He agreed to give her his account name and she attempted to transfer an amount of money. When the transfer failed, the suspect demanded she take him to an ATM, at which point she jumped out of the vehicle. The suspect then got into the driver’s seat as she tried to get him out of her car from the outside. The suspect then exited the vehicle and threw her into the backseat of the car. The victim managed to escape the moving vehicle, before the suspect fled outbound on Liberty Avenue.

The stolen vehicle was a white Toyota Camry, which is the same vehicle involved in a police pursuit and collision in Philadelphia on the evening of Tuesday, March 29. Philadelphia Police have the actor in custody. He faces multiple felony charges.

Pittsburgh Police are in the process of verifying whether the actor is the same individual responsible for the carjacking and attempted kidnapping and attempted robbery in Pittsburgh on March 25. The investigation is ongoing.
