Just after 5 p.m., Police, EMS, and Fire responded to the intersection of Brookline Boulevard and Whited Street for a two-vehicle collision.
Responding units located a car and an SUV. The driver of the car had a head laceration but was not transported to the hospital. The driver of the SUV was Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Chief Darryl Jones who was responding to a nearby fire in the 900 block of Berkshire Avenue. He had lights and sirens activated at the time of the collision.
Chief Jones was experiencing some shoulder pain. Per policy for any employee driving a City of Pittsburgh vehicle, he was taken to the hospital to undergo drug testing.
Regarding the 1-alarm fire, no occupants of the home were injured. A Zone 6 police officer suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
The cause of both the collision and the fire will be investigated.
