Incident Type: Duckling Rescue
Location: West End
Summary: City of Pittsburgh EMS, Police, and Public Works responded to a report of 10 ducklings trapped in a storm drain on the 100 block of S. Main Street around 6:30 a.m.
As Medics were driving through the area, a woman flagged them down to alert them to the trapped ducklings. A Zone 6 Police officer and Public Works employees also stopped to assist.
The storm drain empties into Sawmill Run Creek. Rescuers removed three grates to get to the ducklings and remove them from the storm drain. They gathered the ducklings in blankets and returned them to their mother in the nearby creek.
The mother duck paced the creek bank as rescuers returned all of ducklings one at a time.
