HazMat Team Responds to Strip District Business

Summary:
The City of Pittsburgh Hazardous Materials team was dispatched to 32nd Street at Spruce Way for reports of a suspicious odor emanating from a sealed barrel and noticed by employees just before 5 p.m.
First responders were directed to a 55 gallon drum where metal shavings from a sander were stored in water causing some type of reaction.
Everyone was safely evacuated from the building and there were no injuries or transports to the hospital. There was no risk to the public.
Responders stabilized the contents and the incident was placed under control.
HazMat is a joint effort between the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS.
