At around 9:40 p.m., a Pittsburgh Police Zone 4 officer on regular patrol witnessed a vehicle turn onto Murray Avenue from Bartlett and drive into oncoming traffic.
The officer began pulling the vehicle over when it fled at a high rate of speed before crashing into a large section of fence and taking down a light pole near the I-376 ramp off of Murray Avenue.
The driver was trapped in the vehicle with his leg impaled by a piece of metal. EMS Rescue personnel extricated him from the vehicle and he was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He will also be tested for possible impairment.
The Collision Investigation Unit is investigating.
