In the early morning hours of November 29, 2022 Pittsburgh Police from Zone 2 and Pittsburgh EMS responded for an unconscious male found in Coffey Way near Sixth Avenue. Medics transported him to the hospital for a suspected overdose.
Violent Crime Unit detectives were later called to the hospital after medical tests revealed the male had some type of metal shrapnel, possibly from a bb gun, in his body. On Wednesday, November 30, the victim was positively identified through fingerprints.
He was pronounced deceased in the hospital the morning of December 1; the same day police received video evidence of an assault with a BB gun on the victim that had occurred on Coffey Way.
All of the actors in the video have been positively identified by police. The investigation is active and ongoing.
The cause and manner of death will be released by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.
