Just before 3:20 a.m., Pittsburgh Police officers from Zone 1 responded to 310 Cedar Avenue, the Sunoco gas station, for reports of a female down in the parking lot.
While en route to the call, they received a second 9-1-1 call stating that a vehicle exiting the parking lot had run over the female and did not stop. Responding officers located the victim who was complaining of pain, but she did not know what had happened to her. Pittsburgh Fire and EMS responded to the scene and she was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Collision Investigation was called after her condition was later downgraded to critical in the hospital.
Detectives reviewing camera footage from the area tracked the suspect vehicle and observed as it turned from North Avenue onto Brighton Road. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Marshall Avenue and California Avenue. The driver was positively identified by the security guard from the gas station who witnessed the hit and run.
William Thomas, 41, was arrested. He faces charges of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Careless Driving, and Reckless Driving.
