Pittsburgh Police from multiple zones responded to reports of a possible active shooter at the University of Pittsburgh's Hillman Library just after 11 p.m. on April 10.
Upon investigation, responding units found no evidence of an active shooter and there were no victims or injuries. A short time later, the building was cleared and was deemed safe for students to return and retrieve personal items.
During the active investigation, a Pittsburgh Police officer utilized a firearm to gain access to a locked door of the Hillman Library to clear the building of any possible threat.
There was no evidence of any other shots fired. The PBP will review the incident and the officer’s actions to determine whether they are in alignment with policy and training.
PIttsburgh Police and University of Pittsburgh Police will continue to investigate the origin of the threat.
