Just after 11:45 a.m., a construction crew was working on a building teardown at 193 Chartiers Avenue when the structure partially collapsed, trapping an employee inside an excavator and covering it with debris.
The male patient in his 60s was heavily pinned, suffering trauma to his head, chest and arms.
He was reported initially to be unconscious, but was alert as Pittsburgh EMS Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 crews worked to stabilize and extricate him using advanced life-support trauma care per the Bureau's rescue medicine care guidelines.
Medic 4 transported the patient to the hospital with assistance from Medic 9.
Pittsburgh Police and Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire also responded to the incident.
