Pittsburgh Police Vehicle Struck by Motorist on the North Side

Summary:

At approximately 12:30, Fire, EMS, and Police from Zone 1 responded to a collision involving a PIttsburgh Police detective traveling in a marked cruiser on Cedar Avenue and Tripoli Street. 

A Chevy Traverse struck another vehicle and then careened into the police vehicle. The detective - and sole occupant of the vehicle - was transported to the hospital in stable condition to undergo further evaluation. His current condition is not available. 

The driver of the Traverse was also transported to the hospital in stable condition and appears to have possibly suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash. 

The police vehicle was not on an active call, but rather traveling as the normal course of business.

Per protocol, the Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene to investigate.
