Pittsburgh Police from Zone 5 responded to the 6200 block of Kalida Drive for a 9-1-1 call for a 63-year-old male who was assaulted just after 8:30 p.m. on September 9, 2023.
Arriving officers spoke with the victim who suffered a serious injury to his nose and observed that his face and body were covered in blood. He told police he was jumped by several juveniles and severely beaten while returning home from being out.
Medic 45 transported the victim to the hospital in critical condition. He was later upgraded to stable.
The Mobile Crime Unit processed evidence at the scene.
Witnesses provided a name and description of the alleged primary suspect, who was located, detained and questioned by police. He was later released to the custody of his mother.
The investigation is ongoing as detectives review all available video and work to determine all of the actors involved in the crime.
